Dead Prez...

...No, I'm not talking about money. I'm talking about real hip hop. Dead Prez is a hip hop group from New York.  IDK why I'm just finding out about them, but I'm very sad that I missed them when they came to Kent State last month. *inseret sad face* Here's a video of theirs that I'd like to share

When I grow up *side note I'll be 20 in 3 weeks* I'm going to have the cutest little diva and indie rocker and they shall dress like this.

Outfit of the Day

The KO beatbox experiment left me feeling real ethnic, so lets celebrate with this outfit full of festive colors and rugged touches.

Memories

I played the cello from 5th to 8th grade and I miss it.  My friend posted a video on my FB wall saying that the person in it could've been me if I continued playing. *insert tears here* Enjoy the video

Outfit of the Day

I'm very determined to try the maxi skirt soon...Maybe around May 15ish seeing as though it will be my 20th birthday.  I'm thinking about going with something like this...Not too old. Not too young, but definitely me.

My Summer Essentials

Every summer, just like clock work, my wardrobe goes from punk chic to Woodstock princess.  It's as if the warm rays encourage me to be one with the earth.  Aside from my cut offs, cropped jeans, tees, tanks, ethnic cardigans, turbans and ankle boots, I'm thinking about adding a hair wrap to my arsenal.  They're so fun and eclectic (plus I missed out when I was a kid).  Here are some of my essentials:

Got The Growing Up Blues

I've got a bad case of the growing up blues and probably partly because I'm a fashion major. Next month I'll be 20, but it's not something I'm sure of.  I'm at an age where I feel like I don't know where to shop, so most of it is done in vintage stores, thrift shops, discounter stores, and online.  I definitely know what I want to look like, but I feel like the stores I used to shop at aren't cutting it.  When I went home for Spring break in March me and my friend went to Forver21, H&M, AE and other stores and the only things I bought were a pair of socks and a few pieces of jewelery.  It's almost like I'm too old to shop at these stores, but I don't have a wallet to shop where I want. I presume the 20's will be some of the hardest years of my life with me caught somewhere between teen years and adult hood.  Hopefully I'll find the median soon (very soon), but until the hopefully I can be held over by ASOS and my imaginary closet on Shop Style.

Outfit Of the Day

I'm making a vow that this summer I will be in the gym 5/7 days of the week working out; I've got model dreams and a thing for splashes of yellow  in work out gear

Outfit of the Day

I don't blend well with people and neither should you. Stand out in a good way; dressed to a tee.

Four Women

I was looking for BET's Black Girls Rock version of Nina Simone's Four Women and stumbled across this amazing mash up featuring Ms. Simone and Talib Kweli.  I'm in love again...again and this time it's with real hip hop. I'm in awe with the way Talib Kweli bought Four Women into my generation and made it relevant. I'll definitely be adding more of Mr. Kweli to my Pod line up.

Outfit of the Day

The 70's are definitely making a come back this summer, and I'm sure you want to be apart of it without being a Trend Chaser.  Here's how:

Love is in the hair...

Today I fell in love again. No, not with a boy, but with hair. These two lady's will be my hairspiration for the next 8 months until my 2 year anniversary. They've made me so anxious to take out my tracks ( which I've had in for 3 going on 4 weeks now. Yay me!) and make a regimen for my hair. It'll be a long journey to #TeamLongHairDontCare but it'll be well worth it. I'm pretty sure you too (like me) want to blog stalk them and it's possible. Check them out at Urban Bush Babes

Outfit of the Day

I'm on a roll guys. This is my second post today. Enjoy!

Hair Art

Being African American, most of us believe that our hair is a form of art.  We use it to show off our creativity, and to express ourselves, but the hair featured in Cabinet Magazine and exhibitions by So Yoon Lym is truly art.  Her series entitled DreamTime spotted at Natural Selection features once photographs taken while teaching turned into large painting using acrylic paint.  Here are some of them
But I suggest you check out the rest of the series HERE

Outfit of the Day

Who said metallics died? You just have to know how to do them right. Try it like this!

Outfit of the Day

Get rid of your dull and drab office wardrobe.  I scored and interview with Aflac for a summer job *fingers crossed*.  Would you buy insurance from me if I looked like this?

Outfit of the Day

I told you guys I'd be back and I came bearing an outfit. Enjoy!

I know....

I know I said I'd be more consistent, but hey I'm a college student and things come up.  Remember the infamous Lil' Kim dress I ranted about the other day? Well I didn't manage to remember to take a full body picture so here's a snippet of it and my dapper friend Kevin
He make bows of all sorts...bow ties, bow purses, bow bras, bow headbands. You name it he makes it and he recently had a showing at our school's talent show and I was in it and I have straight hair (gasps for breath)

I promise to try to be more consistent with my posting.
